Welcome to the biannual election circus! The candidates where I live are busy talking all the nonsense that they can in the hope that they will win in the primary election. Talking nonsense to get votes is nothing; in fact, it may be as old as having elections is.
Something that I find fascinating about this is how part of their routine alwasys involved efforts to make the voters feel special; yet in this world of mass media election campaigns can be some of the worst spammers around. Does any voter ever stop to think about the mixed message that this sends? Do they ever contrast the candidates words with the candidates actions? Is this something election campaign managers believe they have to do out of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)? I wonder....
I don't think I'd ever want to run for office; the bizarre dance required to get elected is something that I just wouldn't want to do. I'm definitely not willing to say anything, do anything just to get elected.
At the same time, I think I'm beginning to see the type of person who does well in politics; someone who's been trained to believe in themself and make quick decisions without full knowledge of the facts. That person would be able to project an image of leadership without realizing that their ideas may be wrong. I'd say that this is very common today. Why? Because of society's belief that leaders must be extroverts - and make instant decisions no matter how complex the issue.
Since I'm not an extrovert, I am content to watch all this unfold, look for what qualities in a candidate I think might be useful, then vote those choices.
