Some thoughts on the state of things both past and present (2025 or so)....
I heard on the news yesterday (10 November) that there may be a way forward to resolve the impasse in congress over the budget. I find that it is astounding that it has gone on this long, but I wasn't surprised when it started. The moment that is began, the U.S. Representative for our region sent an email blaming the entire thing on the opposition.
Huh? How can that be?
It is called negotition for a reason - you bring what you want to the table and say why you want it, then the other side does the same. You then work towards an agreement, realizing that both sides have to give some and accept some things that they didn't want to reach a deal.
That didn't happen here. That is why the government has been "Shut Down"; whatever that means.... I don't think my taxes for this year will be reduced any because of the cost savings, do you?
A failure to reach an agreement is a failure of BOTH SIDES to reach it. It isn't just one side! Wake up and look around you, Senators, Congressman, and Leaders! You act like little children playing King of the Hill. Next time, tell the truth; you both failed to reach an agreement. Stop acting like you are little children, always blaming the other side - it just makes you look even more incapable of doing what people elected you for.
That one was a long thought, wasn't it? I'll try to do better on the next one....
I've noticed lately that people are starting to get anxious over various diseases again, such as Measles, Flu, and Covid-19. Some people have taken to wearing masks in public because of it. There is a lot of finger-pointing going on about causes too, but that isn't what I want to talk about here. I have a different point to make, and it is one that I talked about during the Covid-19 epidemic.
During the Covid-19 epidemic, people often discussed it's mortality rate. When asked for my opinion on it, I said something like this: "The mortality rate hasn't changed." That would get me some strange looks! Then I would add "It is still 100%. We are all going to die at some point. We have no choice about why or when or how, so why fret about the numbers?"
We often forget that truth. Perhaps we should think about it more often.
I don't know yet. Check back for updates soon.
